| Her cell phone started ringing as Reason walked into her office, and she cured as she tried to juggle her bag and a stack of pictures to grab for it and pick it up without glancing at the display. Half the calls she tended to get were from number she never recognized anyway. Her attention was only half on answering anyway as she spread the pictures out on her desk.
"Ms Hall?" And unfamiliar, official sounding voice asked. Not someone in the department then.
"Speaking," she said, tucking the phone between her ear and her shoulder.
"I'm sorry," the voice said, abruptly turning strangely sympathetic. It got her attention fast. "There's been an accident."
"Accident?" Reason repeated, straightening and taking the phone to hold it for real.
"I'm afraid," the voice continued, almost hesitantly, "that we may need you to come down and identify the bodies."
"...Bod--what?"
"Four males and a female. Can you--hello?"

| Spring always makes me want to take pictures of something other than dead bodies for a while. Maybe my camera and I need to spend some more quality time on my off days.

| Reason woke, wondering for a minute how the hell she'd managed to fall asleep at her desk. The thought vanished as soon as she realized she was on the floor, her eyes shooting open to stare at white walls that definitely weren't the lab. In fact, they were fading into something else, something that looked like. The Manor.
She pushed herself up, staring. She was standing in a perfect recreation of the Manor's sun room, looking for all the world like she'd just stepped out of it with her sisters. Except she realized, as she turned, that the sun room had never connected to her bedroom quite like that. It was as if all the Manor's rooms she used were laid out on one floor.
Moving through them wide-eyed, she somehow managed to feel even more startled by the attic unfolding on the far side of the floor. Everything was there, cauldron, herbs, candles. Everything but the Book. She ran her fingers over the stand it should have been on, not even noticing the symbol on the stained glass window behind it.
She did, however, notice the door a little way off. And maybe this wasn't the Manor as she was used to seeing it, but that door had never been there before. She frowned slightly and made her way towards it, the floor turning into tile beneath her feet and marked with that same symbol.
Her frown got even deeper as the door shifted into an elevator, and she pushed the button out of sheer curiosity, stepping inside. | | comments: Leave a comment |

| It was getting towards the end of the day, and Reason was holed up in the conference room she tended to take over when she needed to spread things out. Which meant, of course, that the table was covered in photographs except for the space cleared for her notebook and another for her camera.
She frowned at the layout and scribbled a few things down, attempting to ignore the shape of a person walking back and forth across the door. Looking for her, no doubt. Well, they'd either come in or they wouldn't, and she'd deal with them when they did. She focused on the paper again, trying to get a thought out onto paper before she lost it.
She didn't quite manage it.

Tim stopped pacing and pushed the door open, only to frown at the empty room. He could've sworn Reason had been in there a moment ago. And it seriously wasn't like her to just leave her work out like that -- he leaned over to take a look at what she'd been working on -- it looked like she'd stopped in the middle of a word.
The only other thing there was her camera, but as Tim blinked at it, it was apparently broken or something. The room was clearly empty, but he could see figures moving around in it through the camera's view screen. One of them even looked kind of familiar...
Tim stopped and shook his head. He'd been watching too much CSI. Reason had probably left quickly because of an emergency or something. Her sister would know. | | comments: Leave a comment |
